Hey gang:

New writelog user here and loving it. Several of us are planning on
networking WL for use at this years FD effort.

After fooling around for a few hours, and explicetly using the guidance at
the k9Jy website, I finally got two machines successfully connected and
working.

These two machines are running XP home.

Machine 1: Name is DATARADIO
Machine 2: Name is 15Meter

Machine 1 was just set to 'Register to accept Network Connections'

Machine 2 was set to 'Register to accept Network Connections' as well as to
"link to network'.

The setup was stored on a 3rd machine in a shared folder called Network.

When I attempt to bring Machine 3 in that is where the problems begin.

Machine 3 is a notebook running Windows 2000 Professional. I have good
ethernet connectevity between all 3 machines, as tested with the ping
command (running TCP/IP instead of NetBeui. I ran NetSetV9 on the notebook
and get the Network Setup OK box.

Here is exaclty what is happening on machine 3:

1. Start Writelog
2. Browse for existing log.
3. Select the log (test) in the shared network folder. I get a window that
says there appears to be a journal of QSOs that have not been saved.
Recover them now? I select YES.

4. Writelog opens, and the log contains all the QSOs i entered on the 2 xp
machines.

5. I do a file/save as and save the file as test in a nonshared directory
(contest directory under HAM)

6. I do a Setup/register to accept network connections. The letter is N
(different from the other 2 machines) and the name is NOTEBOOK, which is the
netbios name of this machine.

7. I do a Setup/link to network. I link to Machine 1, dataradio.

8. I do a setup/ network display name, name the notebook. I can now see
all 3 machines in the network frequencies window on the notebook.

9. This is where things break. On the Dataradio machine (the server) it
appears that the WriteLog network Status window just freezes on the screen.
Neither of the 2 XP machines (dataradio or 15Meter) see the notebook. When
I attempt to log a call on the DATARADIO machine, I cant even get to the QSO
entry area. It simply will not let me do anything. I log a call onthe
notebook, it accepts it, but the Dataradio machine doesnt see it nor does
the 15 meter machine. The Server (Dataradio) is just frozen. If I log a
call on the 15meter machine, it sees it, the notebook sees it, and the
server (DATARADIO) sees it.

The only way i can get the server to work again is to right click on the
frozen area on the screen, and close. when I do that, The Writelog Network
Status screen flashes and tells me that it lost connection to notebook.

At that point, I can log on the server (DATARADIO) and all 3 machines log
the QSO. I can log on the 15Meter machine and all 3 machines log the qso.
I can log on the notebook and it only gets logget to the notebook.

Sorry for the long post, but I ma at this point thouroughly confused and am
getting very frustrated. If anyone can provide some insight, I sure would
appreciate it!
