Until Microsoft lets go of our "short hairs". As for now, XP is an
unstable hunk of crappola. I have been helping a poor unfortunate friend
who was given a free upgrade to XP as an inducement to buy her Dell Inspiron
8100 Laptop. Only a glutton for punishment would opt for XP now even if it
did not have to be activated by phone over the www. I have more computer
experience than 95% of the gals and guys on this newsgroup and I have been
really sweating to keep XP cranking for her. Why be a beta tester for XP at
your own expense. Use 2000. It is stable and pretty much bugfree compared
to previous versions (especially ME). As for me, I use Win98SE when I have
to and most of the time - Linux.
This is definitely pertinent to Qrp-l business. If the unwary blunder into
XP at this point, they will spend more time fighting crashes than playing
qrp. If you are out in the boonies and have to do a quick reinstall on
your laptop, you won't be able to activate it unless you can get onto the
web.
