George,

Windows' handling of typefaces (fonts) is very strange. First, each
font (typeface) file has an internal name. If you attempt to install
a new file with the same internal name as an installed file, Windows
will ignore the new file unless you uninstall the old one first (this
is almost surely the case with the "slashed zero Arial" as it is a
modified version of the Microsoft OEM file).

In addition, Windows maintains a font cache (fntcache.dat in WinNT
and ttfcache in Windows 98) located in the system directory. In some
cases one needs to delete the cache file in order to get Windows to
recognize new or changed fonts.

Having started on early IBM PCs with the Monochrome (text) Display
Adapter, I prefer Andale Mono for all the monospaced font applications
(except printing for others). It has the "dotted 0" (a dot in the
middle of the zero) and is easily distinguished from the capital letter
"Oh." Andale Mono is readily available from Microsoft in the "additional
web fonts" package at the Internet Explorer (IE) site.

After downloading the VAG Round font from
http://www.qsl.net/wa6axe/fonts.html , the below setup in my writelog.ini
file worked great for me.

Tom,

I downloaded three fonts (VAG Round, Ham and Slashed Zero Arial) with the
following results:

1.) Each font was downloaded into the c:\windows\fonts directory.

2.) One by one, each was installed in the writelog.ini file, [Editor] and
[Entry], FACENAME=FONTNAME commands.

3.) VAG Round produced a slashed zero font in the log editor window, but
not in the log entry line. The VAG Round font is very bold and not pleasing
to the eye.

4.) Ham and Slashed Zero Arial failed to produce slashed zeros in either the
log entry line or in the log editor window.

I would like to have the slashed zero font appear in both the log entry
line and the log editor window, with a font not-as-bold as VAG Round.

Any ideas?
