I have used two flavours of the 864Mhz devices ( probably ca.
900Mhz on your side?), namely Philips and Thomson, and both were
unacceptable to me.
The problem appears to be inadequate input AGC, which results in
overloading on a strong CW signal. I was persuaded to purchase
by favourable reports from others of ( at least) the Philips,
but all I can say is that they must have been pretty uncritical.
I cannot conceive that the IR devices would be any better.
They do have a role of course. It's great to be able to go down
to the kitchen and keep an eye on the band, but I doubt you'd be
satisfied; who knows though?
