I ran into this a few times this weekend. I think it may be correlated to
trying to do something in a window other than writelog itself, e.g. grabbing
a spot. The quick workaround (for me anyway) was to go into the
tools/soundcard setup  window and clear the "echo mic" box. Then go in again
and turn "echo mic" back on.
