Just my two cents, with hopes this doesn't start something....

I use Win98 in my shack on a PC that is only ever connected
to the radio. It was a $399 special for just that purpose and
has the Intel Cele CPU. Not much of a PC, but plenty for what
I do with it. Absolutely no tinkering with this machine. All that
runs on it is DX4WIN and WRITElog and an occasional effort
to use some PSK31 or RTTY software. Works great.

But my "real" computer runs Windows 2000. This is the machine I
use for all my other software, for internet access and for doing
anything that involves video, CDs or printers. I find Windows 2000 the
first true pleasure of an OS to work with from Microsoft. If I move the
modem from COM1 to COM2, the computer realizes this and installs
the appropriate driver. No work on my part. Very nice. It also does
the same kind of thing for my printers and scanners. For someone who
wants to spend time USING their PC instead of CONFIGURING their PC,
this is the way to go, at home or on the road.

That shack PC may not have enough guts to run Win2K, but when
I need to replace it the new machine will run Win2K for certain.

73, Byron

PS. Ex-Macintosh, Win3.1, WinNT beta, WinNT 3.0/3.1/3.5/4.0...
And, of course, my favorite memory, Linux.
