Thanks to Marty and Eric for excellent troubleshooting pointers. I tried
them all but still didn't turn the corner. Even though I had rebooted my PC
and turned the rig on & off, it dawned on me to do a cold boot of my PC
(i.e., powered down completely) and wallah - I was finally successful in
restoring dvk functionality. I should've tried that first (duh).
