For logging I find a fixed width font such as Andale (with the slashed zero)
the best choice.
For normal email I like a proportional font. Looks good.
Except when people send in contest reports.
Then none of the tabs they set up line up.
So I use a fixed width for email send and receive also.
I wish everyone did.
