Others with more experience with CW in WL than I have may want to comment
and improve what I'm suggesting here. I've quite probably missed some
things. The CW decoding via Rttyrite is truly amazing. Much better than I
ever saw with a PK232, KAM+, etc. and had finally given up trying. Also
found the keying smooth and crisp. This project is worth some extra effort
to get it right!

I mainly operate RTTY. But having just gone through this process to have CW
ready to go, here's what helped me get my TS-850 doing fine on WL 10.18:

1. In the WL Help file, read and print out at least the sections with the
headings of CW Interfacing, CW for Rttyrite, View CW Display, CW Keyboard
and Setup CW Decoder. Also CW and RTTY and Voice Message Memories. On the
CW Interfacing page, I chose the LPT option for keying. I built it into a
DB-25 connector and used a scrap piece of audio cable to run to the rig key
jack. It has worked just fine on a spare LPT2 port. Throw the switch in
back of the 850 to use an external key.

2. I chose the option for decoding and display of CW in the Rttywrite
window, which will allow you to click on calls and have them automatically
appear in the log entry window. Detector pitch adjustment takes a little
practice, but isn't a problem at all. The rig filter pitch and Rttywrite
pitch need to match for best results. You also have to take care of the CW
settings in the Rttywrite menu, choosing the Sound Board AFSK option as your
TU. Be sure you've already selected DVK soundcard in the Ports settings
menu. See if you've got the rig control set up correctly under Ports.

3. The CW PTT option worked fine for me with Rig Control selected. Your
Kenwood interface handles this fine. Mine is homebrew from an idea posted
on Joe's (K0BX) web page for 850 users. [http://www.qsl.net/k0bx/] Using
Rig Control means no serial port gets tied up with PTT. I don't recall if
I tried QSK with this, but I believe it works fine. If there had been a
problem, I'd likely remember it.

4. Tweak the setup in WL.ini if needed per notes re CW settings in INI File
Options in Help. The setup menus do most of this work for you. Be sure to
Save Configuration Settings in the Setup menu before shutting down the
program, or you'll have to do it all over again next time.

5. Get to know the prosigns and setup for the CW Keyboard. Same for the CW
and RTTY and Voice Message Setup macros.

6. If you get hung up and aren't sure of the functioning of your sound
card, dowload and run the program called sbrdchk.zip from the Dowloads
section of the WL Homepage. If found this quite helpful. You may also need
to use the utility WlogSbControl.exe to get things right on the receive end
in Windows.

Hope you enjoy this great aspect of an incredibly rich and capable program.
