A 2nd telephone line seems necessity. It only costs about
25 bucks a month here. Biggest problem is making sure your modem
and/or phone line can handle the RF when you transmit so you don't
get knocked off the internet.
My Compaq modem did not like RF. This new HP Pavillion is handling
high power of 600 watts on 20 meters with the antenna only 62 ft
above the station. I'm pleased so far. No RF in the keyboard or
mouse. Not using any ferrite rods yet.
With DXTelnet I've stayed connected to WU3V and IK5PWJ for well over
8 hours now while running RTTYRite and high power calling CQ. This is
not unusual. Internet DXPacketcluster using DXTelnet seems to be
the most reliable connection out there.
Bruce, which Byte Runner board are you using?
