I hope everyone has dug out from any snow, and please remember that it
is Tuesday, and all the cool kids will be on 222 MHz this evening. I got
an early start and just worked AA5C in Texas on 222 MHz this afternoon.
Greg has a new array of 4 X 16 el yagis, and has a great signal. We
worked quickly via the Moon. Degradation was dropping and both ends of
the circuit had high winds, but we worked easily. I hope the wind dies
down by evening, as it sounds like a freight train with the wind howling
thru the towers and guy wires.
Activity on 222 starts after dinner, about 2300 UT and goes as long as
there is activity. Typically you can works folks up to 0100 and later as
you go Westward. Try to monitor a chat page. ON4KST 144/432 Region 2
is full with 222 ops, and other areas might also use the Slack VHF Chat
page. If in doubt, try ON4KST and check with others in your area. It
helps to find stations well off of the beaten path.
I noted that the old Virgo meteor scatter program has been updated and
has a new look with more features. Check it out if interested in meteor
scatter. It lists many showers and can help with planning skeds. See:
