The Prop Princess is starting to smile down on us Northerners now that
July has rolled around. The South has been having tropo events since
March and April. For us up here in the bordelands of the Great White
North, we are now seeing possibilities. Tuesday night is worth
watching. By 0300 UT there is a psossibility of a midwest contact as
some serious inversion is building over the two eastern Great Lakes.
That makes it a possibility for W1AIM, N1JEZ, and W1GHZ to get out a bit
farther to the West. There is another band of possible tropo over
Southern and Central New England as well, and extending out to Western
PA., but with disturbed condx along the Southern shore due to t storms I
guess. Anyway, to test out the forecast we should all get on 222.100
stating after supper and make noise. I hope to be on by 22:45 UT.
If you have not made it to a 222 MHz Activity night, all you have to do
is show up and look for signals and make some noise. Coordinating on the
ON4KST Chat page (144/432 Region 2) is a plus, as you can let people
know you are there and they can turn their sharp beams ur way. It helps.
My beamwidth is only 12 degrees, so I wear out my rotor every Tuesday.
If activity appears, people move off of the 222.100 calling frequency to
make contacts.
The NEWS Picnic was great and there were many attendees and I counted
about 25 or 30 dishes all lined up for the microwave testing. I brought
some beer as demanded by the 222 MHz Activity Committee. I took Ron's
advice and upped the quantity to account for all the scofflaws. then I
noticed that Ron was drinking it all. that was a good move on Good Buddy
Ron's part. GB Ron also had his famous Polish beer selection as well.
So I am looking forward to this evening and hope as many as possible get
on to make the evening a great time for all on 222 MHz.
