Hello Ralph and 222 VHF fanatics,
I will be on this evening attempting to work some stations on the 222
MHz band, however, my antenna rotator is fouled up and will not give me
a correct heading. There is water in the precision 10 turn linear pot
and it is not going away. I will hopefully get it swapped out on
Wednesday if there is not much rain. It seems to be raining daily. That
is why the pot crapped out in the rotator in the first place!
Aiming will be very difficult as the antenna beamwidth is less than 12
degrees and the feedback from the waterlogged pot is constantly
changing. That means finding anyone tends to be a roll of the dice. As
an example, two days ago the KO1I beacon 0n 222.064 was at 14 degrees.
Today it shows up at about 265 degrees. Today the W3CCX beacon is at
170 degrees. Two days ago it was at 280 degrees. The headings just
wander around!! I'll give it a try though. I will be on at about 22:45
or so on 222.110 and looking towards the activity centers of NYC and
Philly. When it gets dark, I have no way of knowing where things are. I
will try to stick around a bit past 0100 for any late shows.
Lots of folks use the ON4KST Chat page (144/432 Region 2) to set up
skeds. I will monitor there. Not much chance for EME as the Moon rises
on the East Coast at 06:30 UT, waay too late for these old bones. The
good news is that conditions are getting very good for the next week or
so. That is why I am trying to get my rotator fixed! CU this evening!

Will be on 0000-0100, CW 222.137 with
CQ's, checking elsewhere for stations. May
also be on for a few minutes around 2300.
