The lights were on, but nobody was home. That pretty much describes 222
activity night this week. Except toward the storm front to my northwest,
conditions were fair, but activity was sparce. I heard only 1 station to my
south and nothing to the west/northwest. Only 6 stations were heard and worked
this week.
W8ZN FM09 SSB
WA3NUF FN20 CW
W1XR FM05 SSB
WZ1V FN31 FT8
WA3EOQ FM09 CW
K1WHS FN43 Q65 (EME)
Note to self --- Do NOT attempt to work long haul terrestrial weak signal
with vertical polarization. It only adds a level of difficulty that is not
needed.
I hope to hear many more stations tonight for the 432 Sprint. I am especially
looking for DE - RI - NH - VT - MI - GA - TN
70cm Station - 4x21 K1FO (mod)
400W SSPA
Mast Mount Cavity LNA
EME Capable
K3SK - FM07

Subject: [VHFcontesting] 222 MHz Activity Night
Good Morning boys and girls,
It is another Tuesday and that means there will be 222 MHz activity all over
the place this evening. The weather for northern New England looks great with
temps of 79 predicted for mid day. I have not seen that in many Moons Kemo
Sabie. I will be enjoying the weather while making some contacts on one of the
best VHF bands. I am still waiting for a big aurora on a Tuesday, but today
will provide some excitement in he form of some Moon activity being possible
during the evening. The Moon wll be setting in the evening, so the folks way
out West will have a good view of the Moon this evening. My Moonset is at 02:30
UT or 9:30 PM local time. I will monitor both the ON4KST and HB9Q Chat pages. I
will try to keep my wits about me and attempt to do EME and terrestrial stuff
at the same time, almost. Usually I get all balled up and use the wrong antenna
on the wrong propagation mode.
Action starts at about 2300 UT after dinner and can go as long as the
conditions warrant. With the warmer temps, we always look forward to enhanced
tropo. The Hepburn map is showing a weak NE-SW area of enhancement that crosses
the Eastern Great Lakes. I will be looking for extended tropo on the fleeting
LakeErie/Ontario path. Both N1JEZ and myself have seen this work, when other
directions are not working.
If you have not participated on a Tuesday night on 222 MHz, all you have to do
is show up and make noise looking for contacts on or around the calling freq of
222.100. Check in to the ON4KST Chat page if you are in a remote area with
little activity. That way, you can inform folks that you are QRV and others
will be made aware of your presence, and turn their beams ur way.
CU this evening on 222.100 MHz.
