I got my log from 222 Activity Night and saw that I had 27 contacts. My
northern QSOs consisted of the Vermont contingent of W1GHZ, W1AIM and
N1JEZ. Out west I had zero luck with no one in central or western New
York. I am hoping that the boys from NY and Toronto etc show up as the
big snow drifts melt.
My first contact was KC2SGV in FM29 and my last QSO was on FT8 with
W1UJ. I hung around until about 01:20 or so and heard nothing else. I
had to head home as I had an early morning commitment. Best DX covered
was WA3EOQ at 805 km and then W1XR at 654 km. K3WHC at 607 km and then
KC2SGV at 572 km. There were large swings in signal strength. I
listened to the W3CCX beacon for awhile just before the action started
and at times, it was dipping into the noise even on the four yagi array.
That is unusual and I was expecting very poor condx. So I was surprised
to hear WA3NUF at 58 on SSB. In winter he can be about 5X5 typically, so
there was some significant QSB swing.
K4LY was on from SC and worked a few stations up north. K3WHC and
WA3EOQ I think. N1GC was also QRV and made some nice contacts. I think
he worked K9MRI for a very nice haul. I am always impressed at how
signals can propagate on 222 MHz. More southerly stations can routinely
make 450 mile contacts running rather low power. W5EME in LA and AJ6T
in TN often can contact each other. AJ6T has 30 watts. Other contacts
last night involved W1XR and N1JEZ at about 700 km! Mike still has lots
of snow, but he thinks he sees the end of winter coming along. Were
there any more extended range contacts last evening? Let us know if you
made one.

I keep hearing of new stations getting on the air. The more stations
that get on means that more fun will be had. Thanks to all the
regulars who make an attempt each and every week to keep 222 MHz
percolating along.
