As is usual, the activity level here in EM 79 was sparse this week. I was on
from 7p-930p local time, and worked the following 5 stations via SSB:
NE9EE EN71 100ish miles
K3SK FM07 377 miles
N1GC EM95 326 miles
AA9MY EN50 262 miles
WA3EOQ FM09 295 miles
NEE, SK, 9MY, and EOQ are usually within reach for my 500+ watts into 22
elements at 55 feet. It was nice to add N1GC into the mix. Right before
Christmas, I replaced the Ukraine transverter with a 50 watt Q5 model from
Corey. It seems to work well with my IC-7600 rig.
I always try to look towards K1WHS on 222 Tuesday in hopes that we might make
the 765 mile trip as happened back on 8/6/23 which was a total surprise.
It was quite the treat! I asked Dave to look my way via the ON4KST chat page,
and gave him a long call (150 watts then) on SSB. When I unkeyed, he was there
S9+ 10 like he was in the room with me. That event lasted all of 20 seconds,
then the big switch went back to off.
