I have been hoping to get on for 222 MHz activity, but a really bad
snowfall has totally cut off access to my VHF hamshack. We had a
recorded 13.5" on the ground and lots of downed trees and tree limbs.
The snow is very heavy and wet. KA6U has been trying EME in NH and VT
on 222 and 23 cm these last few days, and I am just too sick to even get
out of bed let alone snow shoe up the hill. I had the best intentions
this morning, but just could not do it. The deep snow was a suprise and
now a considerable amount of delicate gear is stranded up on the hill.
Normally I haul out the transceivers, xverters and the lithium battery
for the winter, but that did not happen.
So tonight is Tuesday 222 activity time, and if I am feeling OK I might
make the trek up for one last time before the snow gets really deep!!
Generally, the truck is OK as long as the snow stays under 8" deep. With
a steep and un improved road, it is a very simple task to get sliding
sideways and into a convenient tree. Portions of the road can be
treacherous. The betting in Las Vegas has K1WHS at 35% for showing up
tonight.
