Thank you also Tim for your sad report regarding NW7O. He provided me with two
of my 144 MHz VUCC grids here in CN87. Regarding the 2 Meter Sporadic E
records, WA4CQG in EM72 and I held the record following Jim at 3,495 miles from
6/6/88 until Al, WA7GSK broke it in 1998.

Subject: [VHFcontesting] Jim - NW7O - Now a SK
TIm: Thanks for the note.
Jim, NW7O set a record for 2 meter sporadic-E in the June 1987 VHF contest by
working KD4WF in Savannah, GA at 3,182 kilometers. Jim's was the first 2 meter
sporadic-E
contact reported beyond single hop (2,200 kilometer) range.
You can read about it in the September, 1987 WA50 column, available at QST
archives. During the same contest opening WA7JTM AZ worked Florida and Georgia
on 2 meter Es.
I was at the WB0DRL station west of Salina, KS. Recall Dean, WA0TKJ at the 2
meter position running stations in Florida on Es. 2 meters sounded like 20
meters ! The first 220 MHz
sporadic-E contact was made during that same 1987 VHF contest between K5UGM TX
and W5HUQ/4.
The current NA 144 MHz sporadic-E record is WA7GSL (DN13) -- W4FF (EL96) at
3,635 kilometers set May 29, 1998.
