I would generally agree with using JT65 (sub mode C) on 1296. That has worked
ok for me in the past for long haul terrestrial use on 1296.
That being said I'd probably be inclined to practice sending and receiving the
contest exchanges on JT65 ahead of time if I anticipated having to send or
receive "/R" calls for example.
