Hi Mark.. sure looks to me like the issue is Northeast related. MSK144 calling
frequency is 144.150 (was 144.140, but EME activity was being interfered with)
and skeds commonly go to 165 and often 170. It sure would be great to find
better use for frequencies below 144.100.

 Stan

Subject: [NEWSVHF] FT8 activity frequency move to 144.165?

rr Fred, Rick, Jay, Ron, Stan, all Given the Packrats net on .150, and the fact
that .175 is within the area of heavy ssb/cw use during contests (ex:W2SZ on
.170), and other users (MidAtlantic+Northeast US general SSB/CW usage on .175),
A frequency in the segment from 144.155 to .165 would work for FT8 and have
little interference potential for SSB & CW users.Digital EME is great, and
international. K1JT says 25 QSO’s can carry on similtanously without
interference using 10 KHz. So, maybe they will need 45 KHz, or more during an
EME contest? That’s OK too. But, it’s rare for a terrestrial station to hear
anything in the 144.100-.145 segment. Digital modes will change, and get
narrower and even better. A good test would be to estimate the interference
potential between EME and terrestrial stations. It might be less that we
think.Even if many new operators come on board, We have plenty of spectrum to
operate all these modes. Do we want to ask the FCC to allow digital in the
144.000-.100 segment?Would the FT8 move get a better reception if .164 was
proposed instead on .165?Tony, K8ZR, had a talk about this subject at our April
Eastern VHF Conference. After his talk, I compiled this list of proposed-p, and

Subject: Re: [NEWSVHF] 144.174 FT8 activity I now have FT8 capability HF
through 432. It's my least preferred mode. IMO it's a "necessary evil" to
have or be left out. If you operate 6M you know what I mean. One thing I'd
really like to change is 144.174. Who was responsible for choosing that ?
Way too close to the SSB-CW part of the band. Disputes already started with a
long-time 144.175 SSB Net. I'd like to start a campaign to move it to
144.165. That's where it should have been to start with. Who else agrees?
Thoughts? -73 Ron WZ1V ----- Original Message ----- From: Rich Griffiths
