I am against using the distance scoring rule just because it makes it seem
too difficult to new contesters. If we want to get new hams interested in
UHF contesting, we need to keep it as simple as possible-something that the
new ham with a dualband FM rig or 706/857D can figure out when they get on
446.000 or 432.100. Most of them would have no idea what their 6 digit
grid is, and might not know how to find out. The local club could let all
members know what their 4 digit grid is, though.
Same for logging. Not all logging programs do distance scoring-I realize
that I am really out of date but I use NA and it doesn't. We need
something simple enough that the new ham logging on a piece of notebook
paper can figure out how they did.
