Good beginning.
My first suggestion is to limit amount of information that can be
entered into that untitled column. Think in terms of printable
versions ... right now you would have to clear out a small forest of
trees to print that out.
I can do that. It won't be any trouble cutting-out the clutter from
between the facts.
A second idea would be to create a google calendar for grid
expeditions / activations that everyone could import into their
calendars.
Another good idea. I'll work on that after the contest.
Third, I considered enlisting the aid of my son who is a real
programmer :-) to create a database where any ham could enter in up to
10 grids that they most need / want. This would then populate a map
showing a number value inside each grid the number of people needing /
wanting that grid. His observation is that he biggest obsicale here
is getting them to go back in and delete that request once they
confirm it. I had originally suggested 25 grids and he said limiting
it to 10 would be better to help eliminate that issue.
I think your son has a pretty good grasp on just what will go on if a map based database is
constructed without a means to measure what is no longer valid. Honestly, though - to open data
entry up to the 'masses' (sorry) is just asking for trouble. I'm within 200 of having 488 and
nobody cares who my most wanted are! I'm too far from completion for my data to matter. "The
Most Wanted" database is populated with new data every few years by hams who reside on the
"Leader Board." It wouldn't be an understatement to say that if 'they' need 'em, most of
the rest of us probably need them too. http://www.arrl.org/files/file/FFMA/FFMA_Survey_2010.pdf
Thanks for your suggestions, Mike.
