Personally 222MHz is way under rated and under utilized. 222 is only 3.75dB worse in Free Space Pathloss than 2M. In addition the background noise floor is much higher on 2M than 222 so all things considered equal (antenna gain, power, system noise etc.), these bands are very similar.
