The Fall 144 Sprint went well overall. Activity beyond VE3 was good but
activity within VE3 was poor.
Started off in FN04na at 1100 fasl, running 75 watts to a 12 elmt K1FO at 12
feet AGL. Got 23 qso's in 12 grids for a grid points total of 276 points.
Halfway through, headed to FN03, but found a closer site chosen to actually be
FN04ma so headed south, stopping at several places along a highway and hearing
nothing. Went southwest and parked in a farmers field on a hilltop in FN03mu
and the signals returned. Approx 800 fasl. Got 14 qso's in 10 grids for a
grid total of 140 points.
Contest total is 37 qso's and 416 points.
Best odx west was K8JA in EN82ln, distance 224 miles or 363 km. on CW.
Best odx south was K8TQK in EM89 at 364 miles (?) or 589 km, also on CW.
Best odx east could be called a tie with less than 2 km difference, K1TEO in
FN31jh at 343 miles or 555.66 km and WZ1V in FN31mp at 341.7 miles or 554 km.
Jeff was ssb and got me in both grids, Ron was cw and got me in FN04.
The 144 segment calls for only 4 digits, but I thank all those who provided 6
digits to have more accuracy in establishing distances between stations. The
true K8TQK distance not calculated due to only 4 digits given.
For the no-coders, 11 qso's were cw and 26 qso's were ssb. I did not do FM in
this contest.
Many thanks to all participants including all I worked, and thanks also to the
SVHFS for sponsoring these fun events.
73,
Bill VE3CRU/R
