Comments: I decided to operate as a Hilltopper from contest start
(1800Z) to 2359Z on Saturday. In the Hilltopper class you only get 6 hours
to operate. Your last QSO must be within 6 hours of your first one.
The weather was perfect. The air was clear. The view from the hilltop I was
on was breathtaking. A bluebird tried to land on me (maybe he thought I was
a big bug?)
No 6 meter opening at all for me. I heard K1WHS in and out of the noise but
he wasn't hearing me. I did hear W4ZRZ and a station in EM66 on 144 MHz but
Jimmy wasn't in the contest and disappeared before I could work him, and the
other station couldn't hear me.
Worked most of the local VHF contest regulars. Glad to see some Rovers out
in my area! I worked K9ILT/Rover in four of his grids.
Conditions on 50 MHz were typical of the band with no enhancement. 144 MHz
seemed better than in the June contest but nowhere near what it could've
been. It was fun anyway.
73, Zack W9SZ
