This is a serious misconception.  It's true that most people 
get started with the WSJT modes by making some skeds. 
However, many then discover that they can also make random 
QSOs.  Quite possibly, they find the random ones more fun.

I've made some 800 EME QSOs with the JT65 mode over the past 
  1.5 years.  More than 3/4 of these were made without any 
pre-arrangement at all.
