The "Cold Shrink" is good for tool handle cushions, and that is about it.
Have slipped some over some hydraulic hoses to prevent further damage to
the hose exterior and they have held up well in that application... but
they have failed miserably as connector seals in the Pacific Northwest in
the "cell" industry...
There is probably enough butyl rubber in a single Andrew connector
weatherproofing kit to last most Hams a lifetime... Considering what most
charge for "coax seal" it would be a wise investment to pick up a couple
kits... especially if some kind person brings a bunch to a hamfest.
Failing that, I have seen gray-colored butyl rubber tape in one inch wide
strips at the local hardware store... should work also.
