When the ARRL changed the rules, a lot of rovers dropped out.  Some 
came back; some didn't.  But when they ran their survey a couple of 
years back, one of the questions was whether or not to change back to 
the old method of scoring.  Those who responded to the survey said 
no, keep it like it is...

I, too, would like to know Dave's objections.
