Bill,
We've had two IC746Pros at the K8CC contest station for several years.
One is mine, and the other belongs to my buddy K9TM. These have been
used primarily on 50 MHz and 144 MHz as part of a limited multi-operator
setup with completely satisfactory results. I've also used mine once
from the car as a mobile entry in a Michigan QSO Party, and K9TM used
his in this past CW SS, and again we were completely satisfied with no
complaints to report.
All these experiences have been with the Pro model of the IC-746. We
have another guy in our club (K8MR) who regularly uses a non-Pro IC-746
both as the basis for his home station on both HF and VHF, plus a lot of
HF mobile operation and he seems pretty satisfied as well.
73,
Dave/K8CC
