The QST review discussion of the IC-7000 focused mostly on HF, as Bruce
notes. The commentary regarding the radio's performance on VHF/UHF weak
signal SSB/CW was cursory. You have to dig to find the IC-7000's weak
signal VHF/UHF performance in the "Receiver Dynamic Testing" table on page
66.
For example with 10 dB (S+N/N) 1-kHz tone 30% mod:
50 MHz 1.0 uV preamp off 0.48 uV preamp on.
144 MHz 1.4 uV preamp off 0.45 uV preamp on.
432 MHz 1.6uV preamp off 0.5 uV preamp on.
Receiver and transmitter Dynamic Testing, IMD and power output on VHF/UHF
are detailed in the review's tables. How these compare with other multimode
HF + VHF/UHF radios was not discussed, but you can do your own comparison by
using these numbers.
The original IC-706 review appeared in March 1996 QST, IC-706MII review in
March 1998, the IC-706MII(G) in July 1999 and the IC-756PROIII in March,
2005.
