Interesting what different people go through. I didn't have any microwave
bands as a "relative newcomer". My first VHF contest was done with a
homebrew 144 MHz transverter (5 watts) and 5 element homebrew Yagi on a
hilltop. I think I made 5 or 6 QSO's in that one.
I streamlined the setup a little and built a 12 element Yagi for the next
one but it was still just 144 MHz. Somewhere along the line I decided I'd
try to add a new band every year. All homebrew. After 15 years I've
managed to have a station with all the bands through 10 GHz.
I've started working on 24 GHz and hopefully will have that band next
year. Now I hope there are people to work up there! ...
