 From the mouth of the League:

"The use of spotting assistance or nets (operating arrangements involving 
other individuals, DX-alerting nets, packet, etc) is permitted."

This overrides the general rules and the VHF rules and only pertains to the 
EME contest. Individual contest rules always override the more general 
rules.  This is to allow nets such as PingJockey in real time.  That was 
it's original intent.
