Hi,
Bob N5RP and I are going to be operating from Bald Knob in southern
Illinois, near Alto Pass, in the June VHF QSO Party. We may be joined by
Sean KX9X.
Bald Knob is in grid square EM57hn. For those of you who haven't seen it,
the hill is the highest point in the area and has a large cross on the top
of it. It is visible from Interstate 57.
We are going to try to set up the microwave station on the top of the
cross. This has been done before, but not by us (this is the first time
either of us has operated from this site). So it should be an adventure!
We should have all bands from 50 through 10368 MHz.
I don't have high power for the higher bands but we'll see what we can do
with 1 watt on 2304, 3456 and 5760 and 0.5 watt on 10368. Hopefully we
will do some future contests from this site with better equipment but this
is kind of an experiment. I'm sure we will have fun and make quite a few
QSO's. We will probably use 144.260 (+ or -) as a liaison frequency for
the microwave bands.
73, Zack W9SZ
