[VHFcontesting] VHF Log Periodic Recommendations

I am looking to play with a 50-450MHz Log or even something to 1GHz.   I 
see that Tennadyne, KMA, Cushcraft and some other homebrew'ers are making 
them.  I'm looking for temporary home use and potential rover use after that.

If anyone has any experience with logs, I would appreciate your input.
