Hi Jon and others,
I think this KP2 under reporting points up a problem with VHF contests in that
casual operators may not send in a score. The result is that activity is under
reported. I have suggested to ARRL that score summaries could be sent to the
league via the internet. Similar setups are used by several groups to collect
scores immediately after the contests. Of course, these scores are not eligible
for awards, but would show activity. Score summaries cannot be checked for
accuracy, hence the exclusion from awards. I think the process could be easily
monitored for potential abuse.
A person could send in his score simply by tabulating contacts and grids per
band. The score would automatically be tabulated, and the results could be
published in the Web Report at arrl.org. Sounds simple to me. It is easy to do.
There would be no excuse to not send in a log. For those with no internet connx,
a letter with summary included could suffice as well. Most casual operators are
not interested in winning anything, but seeing ur call up in lights, even on a
web page, for all to see, would be a nice reward for the minimal effort.
Hopefully, we could get a better picture of activity during contests as a
result.
