I have used a hb two element reflector beam as my rovering antenna for
several years. This was after an attempt to build a two element director
beam. The main advantage of a two element reflector beam is the simplicity
of direct feed. Use a split driven element with a spacing of about three
feet. Then just attach the coax directly to it. The SWR will be about 1.4
to 1. A director beam, on the other hand, will require a matching device
of some kind as it's input impedance will be below twenty ohms. The main
disadvantage, as other have pointed out, is a loss of gain vs. a close
spaced director beam. I seem to remember it on the order of a db or so.
