Hi Folks,
I would like to present a topic for discussion.
In the near future, hopefully in time for the June contest, I'm planning to
add equipment for 432 and/or 222 to the Rover setup. And, being as "no
budget" is a pretty good way to describe my setup, I'm looking for the most
affordable way to do this. Now I would like to get an FT1000MP with a DEM
transverter and KW amp, but it just ain't gonna happen:-)
So how would you, or did you, go about it?
I've considered getting one of the Microwave Modules transverters, and
combining with a HTX 100 or something for an IF. Not exactly high
performance, but would likely do the job. My main rig is an IC746, but I
really don't want to modify it for transverters.
The old FT790's would be a good option. A little more expensive than the
transverter above, but I wouldn't have to add the IF rig. Sounds like a
very "rover friendly" solution. I'm not sure how the performance would
compare.
I've also read that there are mods to the Ten-Tec 1210 transverter to put it
on 222 or 432. But would still need to add the IF rig.
Appreciate any and all input,
