Here's the stuff I use.

Used to pick it up at HRO. I put a layer of Scotch #88 first, then the Coax
Seal, then another layer of #88. If you put the seal on the connector
directly, you'll never get it off!

I have a Yaesu G-800 rotator on a roof tower and the motor is fine, but I hate
the controller. I know that the RT-21 by Green Heron is an excellent product,
but @$600 is pricey, and I've never seen a used RT21 go up for sale.
Can anyone suggest an alternative? I am comfortable building, and am
knowledgeable in electronics. I am also OK with building an interface and using
computer software to control the motor.
I have a G-450A and am perfectly fine with the controller- the paddle switches
are easy to control with my left hand while I am sending CW or tuning with my
right.

The GH RT-21 is the best option I know of. Check out eHam.net for used units.

The ARCO controller by MicroHam is very nice. But I suspect out of your range,
considering your thoughts on GH pricing.
Since you're OK with building, you might want to look at the K3NG Arduino
controller to see if it fits your needs:

I have purchased a number of used RT-21's for hundreds off the new price.
They are very frequently listed for sale. In fact there is one for sale right
now as well as an upgraded RT-20 on swap.qth .

I use Scotch Super 88 its 1.5 mil thicker than Scotch 33+ and it has strong
adhesive.? I have used this since I was in the Navvy and will continue to use
it.? It has never failed me.? I also wrap the connectors with Scotch 2228
Moisture Sealing Electrical Tape too.
I really do not care if it cost a little more I stay with what works for me.

Interesting.? I just watched the video, and? to me the tests were incomplete -
it may be impractical to test some of the most important characteristics such
as the effects of sun and hot/cold cycling over a period of years.

I like Pete's observation about the importance of environmental extremes. For
about 10 years, W6GJB and I have settled on a first wrap of a self-fusing
Silicone tape like Rescue Tape, with an over-wrap of Scotch 88. This has proved
to be excellent in the moderate climate of middle latitude coastal California.
What we like about it is that it provides excellent waterproofing, while still
being very easy to remove when needed. We simply unwrap the 88, then slice the
self-fusing tape with a blade.
We've also been using a "Liquid Tape" around places where tape cannot provide
an effective water seal, like the in-line and center-insulator chokes that Glen
has built.

I also use Scotch 88. I do not use that much tape a year to be concerned with
its cost. Scotch 88 also works better in cold weather, in a previous life I
have put up antennas in Chicago in January it worked just fine.
