This is an update to an email I posted on Oct 18 asking for some assistance
with a couple of T11 problems. The balance point was way off based on the
current location of the Boom to Mast plate and I was having issues
contacting Roger, the owner of Tennadyne.
First, thanks to everyone that responded, but I actually did not get any
replies from ` that solved the balance issue or had an alternate way to
contact Roger, so I forged ahead on my own.
Balance point issue: The perfect location was 16? forward of the location
called for in the manual. This would have put the mount at the exact same
location as element 4, so that would not work. So, I moved the Boom to Mast
plate 12? forward. This provided an almost perfect balance and reduced the
weight needed from 11 lbs to about 1 lb located `at the back of the antenna.
To address` that 1 lb issue, I fabricated a couple of lead inserts 1 ½? long
that would snugly fit in the end of the top and bottom boom. I then
permanently attached them with a Gorilla Glue like material. DONE!!!
Contacting Roger: Roger called me on October 23. He apologized for not
getting right back to me. Since then he and I have exchanged numerous
emails and had several phone calls. As in the past, he is a pleasure to
talk to and work with.
Other: My T11 was purchased used but never taken out of the original box
by the original owner. The age factor contributed to a couple other issues
that I was having that Roger quickly provided assistance with. First, the
shorting bar located at the back of the antenna was supposed to be attached
at one of the 4 predrilled mounting holes based on the best SWR on 12
meters. None of the locations worked for my antenna but after some
experimentation I determined that the total length of the bar needed to be
about 30?. This was 10? shorter than the shortest factory option. Roger
said the new T11 is shipped with a 32? shorting bar, thus eliminating this
OLD tuning method.
Also, the new T11 is shipped with a truss assembly to provide additional
support for the boom. My antenna was old so no such truss came with it.
Finally, the new T11 is shipped with (2) Slip-Not assemblies to make sure
the antenna does not turn on the mast. Due to the age of my T11, I only had
one.
Since talking to Roger, I now have a new manual and also have incorporated
the new shorting bar, truss assembly and dual Slip-Nots.
Roger is in the process of updating the T11 manual and Boom to Mast location
and will be moving the mount point 12? forward based on my successes.
The antenna is not yet on my tower as I am trying to coordinate some
additional ground crew assistance, but once it gets up there I have no doubt
it will perform well!
