Mike,
I ran a CC a50-5 for a while many years ago. It's a real dog. SWR was good
I guess, but I nicknamed it the blob beam.
It always felt like no matter where I aimed it, the signal levels never
moved much up or down.
I had done many tests with (at the time) receiving my own beacon which was
20miles away from my QTH and it's pattern kinda resembled a butterfly.
By extending the boom, I've heard you can really make that antenna shine.
I run a A50-6S these days and the pattern is quite good as well.
