Hello Scott,
Yes, the end sleeves are mandatory. Do not use cable clamps as they will
distort the end of the guy grip.
The end sleeves are mandatory for a reason. They keep ice from getting
underneath the grips.
Guys in Oklahoma did not put the sleeves on and had terrible ice
trouble.
Always do what the manufacture tells you to do.
Install the proper end sleeves - not cable clamps.
