Maurice, K3EJJ, has been machining various bushings to use instead of the
typical TB3 or TB300 thrust bearing. A number of these are in use in the
Baltimore area, where I encountered one for the first time a few months ago.
At my suggestion, Maurice has come up with a split bushing. So if a TB3 or
other bearing seizes, it is simply lifted higher on the mast and locked in
place, and the new split bushing installed on the top plate. This of course
saves the normal procedure of removing the beams from the mast, lowering or
removing the mast and replacing the bearing. Saving a lot of climber time of
course.
I have no financial interest in this venture, but thought it would be of
interest to fellow Towertalkers.
Off and on I've searched industrial catalogs for a split bearing or bushing
but never found one to match the TB3 hole spacing and mast size.
