A: yes Jim Miller a great guy,,, sad at his passing. When I had my 160 ACB-4
installed @ 90 ft on the 155 ft tower I wanted to re install it at a lower
level talked to Jim and I made a new set of ¾ wave length RG11 cables and Jim
again was going to CT to visit stopped by and encouraged my climb and helped
lower the wires for re installations of the new feedlines. RIP my friend ☹
B: the picture/link you sent looks like the new bought one , except there
is NO fiberglass tape at all ( wires are black/white) has no top Zip tie
band, other I had did to keep the toroid’s from stressing the solder joints,
no wire relief clamp and no sticker label It also has clear RTV on the
windings on top of just ONE toroid to hold wire in place
My other three owned ACB (ABC just sounded better !) All my other
previous units had the total toroidal fully wound with fiberglass tape !
Thanks for the link

Subject: Re: [TowerTalk] Comtek ABC switch Box.
Do you mean ACB-4 switch?
If the relays are missing their covers it sounds like the previous owner
also had issues. It a good idea to look inside at things when purchasing, I
have been burned too on used items that looked mint on the outside. Internet
photos just show tape around the torrid (does yours look like this?):
https://jr6hlr.hamazo.tv/e2255083.html. If it is newer unit perhaps DXE can
assist, the previous Comtek owner is a silent key.

Over the years I have owned ABC 160 ABC 80 and ABC 40 meter 4 Sq switch
box... My 80 meter box took a lightning hit last summer.
I picked up a used on one of the Ham reselling sites...
Getting ready for CQWW-CW I installed it and to my surprise... it's not
working
as it should.. Examining the unit and wringing out the truth table the
relays
are A-OK.
There missing there covers and the torrids are wound on them but there
is
NO fiberglass tape and there held in place with a bead of RTV across the
top.
Again the DXeng site says there wound on fiberglass tape my old unit
has
the tape
A good deal my be not so GOOD !
