I don't have any personal experience, but a friend of mine, who is also a
broadcast engineer, was obviously very concerned about getting a pacemaker
due to his line of work. The manufacturer advised him that, in the
medium-wave AM broadcast range where he would likely be exposed to
high-level fields at transmitter sites, exceeding 1 V/m was not recommended.
So, that pretty much ended his visits to AM sites. It was roughly 8 years
ago that he received his first implant when we talked about this; not sure
how much has changed since then in terms of the design of pacemakers or the
associated recommendations from their manufacturers and/or medical
professionals.
