The problem I had with a trencher was smaller rocks getting pulled up and
then wedged into the trencher. This meant frequent stops to remove rocks.
Some took a while to get out. I then used a mini excavator and it went much
faster.
As for long cable runs: I have about 600ft to my rotating tower base from a
switch location. I ran 2 x 1-5/8" lines out there into a 4O3A 8x2 switch and
all switching / rotation etc is done wireless. It works well for me.
Depending on what kind of cable you use, calculating loss is easy and most
vendor sites has the calculators on their sites. All you need to do is add
connector / splice loss. I connected a remote power meter to the antenna end
of my cable runs and it was very interesting comparing calculated loss with
actual loss. In my case if was fairly close.

## How far is it from shack to the furthest point, furthest tower ? On
some of these larger station sites I have looked at in their pix, it appears
some of the runs of coax are a long ways away. Thats just to get to the
base of the tower, never mind the
height of the tower. Im trying to fathom the total loss in the coax, from
feedpoint, to back of amp. Depending on band, and coax used, and total
run length, I suspect in some or many cases, it must be on the high side.
Several hundred feet of coax
to base of tower + height of tower is going to add up to a bunch. What is
typ worse case loss for these stations ?
