Well FWIW — I am scared to death of crankups and folders. I owned a Rohn 45
foldover and have extensive experience working on crankups. Each has its own
set of hazzards. Give me a good, honest standup straight tower any day. I also
have (bad) experience with an aluminum tower. Keep an eye on the bolts in the
letdown base. The SS bolts electroplated themselves to a diameter of less than
a quarter inch on a 70 foot self supporter. I installed it and they discovered
the problem about ten or fifteen years later, thankfully after I had moved
away. I wouldn’t have wanted to try and take that thing down!!
