I acquired a nice length of Decibel Products VB-8, am interested to
determine if it's good and how to terminate it. Before I removed the old
weathered connectors I checked with my antenna analyzer and it looked good.
I stripped the jacket and the braid and center conductor are both pristine
copper. And very sticky. The dielectric looks to be solid PE and also
sticky. I recall reading another post about some cables being injected at
the factory with moisture proofing goo, might be the case here too. If so,
how to terminate? The braid will not take solder and I haven't tried a
solvent clean for concern about affecting the dielectric. Can't find any
specs on the cable, as the original company seems to have changed hands long
before my time on the air.
