My son uses a 135’ off center fed dipole, with 4” ladderline, fed with an old
Matchbox.
He is a beginner and simply built a common design.
It isn’t very high, but works way beyond expectations, even getting DXpeditions
on 20 SSB.
Of course any antenna works sometime, but his seems very effective.
He used CPVC pipe spacers, but one can buy Laddersnaps and avoid working with
the pipe.
“Balun” can have many meanings, of course. His Matchbox is a matching network
AND a balun.
Obviously you have to have some sort of balanced tuner.
This technology is going on a century old and still effective.
