It's just physics isn't it?A three element antenna will be better than a two element antenna assuming both have optimized element spacing and length for a given optimal boom length. The C3 family of antenna's are interlaced 2 element monobanders. I would expect something like a DX Engineering Skyhawk, 3 element interlaced monobander, to out perform any C3...by a long shot. It's a bigger antenna, twice the boom length and four more elements to play with. If there's a study that says different then either the study is wrong or the ARRL Antenna Book is wrong. My money is on the book. If your going to compare antennas you need to compare apples to apples etc.... I seem to remember when Force 12 was the hot antenna to get not many other people were even making 2 element antennas. How would a C3 hold up to a SteppIR 2 element or an Optibeam 2 element? Probably pretty close depending on boom length. On 1/19/2017 4:46 PM, Bob K6UJ wrote: Jim, Thanks for posting the study. We hear so many anecdotal comments on how these antennas are better than others, blah, blah, blah. It is great to have facts from actual research this study provides. My decision to purchase the Force 12 C3 was based on this research study. Its been a great performer. I've had a lot of them and they all performed poorly. This observation flies in the face of measurements performed by K7LXC and N0AX c.a. 2000, and well documented in the report linked below. Their test methods are first rate, and so are their credentials. Since N6BV retired about five years ago, N0AX has been editor of the ARRL Handbook and the ARRL Antenna Book. I've contributed to both, and have had considerable technical interchange with him. http://www.championradio.com/HF-TRIBANDER-PERFORMANCE-TEST-METHODS-RESULTS.2 Between us, NI6T, W6GJB and I own three C3SS antennas, all bought used for our contesting group. We use them on FD and on county expeditions for CQP and 7QP. We love this antenna, which offers very good performance in a lightweight, compact package. 73, Jim K9YC _______________________________________________ _______________________________________________ TowerTalk mailing list TowerTalk@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/towertalk______________________________________________________________________________________________ TowerTalk mailing list TowerTalk@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/towertalk -- R.
