It is difficult to make a single choke for 40 to 6m but it is easy to
put two in series on the feedline. The K9YC tutorial has designs for 40
to 10m and 6m. I like using multiple type 43 or 31 small clamp ons for
VHF, see the appendix for the recommendations.
Also, G3TXQ has a nice summary chart for chokes at

Hi Patrick
The benefits of a choke go beyond what happens on TX. A choke can also cut down
RX noise.
If you read k9yc's material, you'll see a choke does not need to be complicated
or expensive. Using his data, I made one that was nothing more than 8 turns
through a Biggest Clamp-on.
As well, your contact's suggestion ignores the fact most antennas that need
chokes already have feedlines departing at 90 degrees.

Thanks every one for your replies. I was misinformed, the adjustable elements
are just a tad over 17 feet when extended.
I did get one suggestion from a contact in Colorado who said if the feedline
comes well away from the antenna on the midline at right angles to the antenna
just hook it up sans chokes or baluns and go for it, especially on QRP.
Good info. You guys have covered all areas.
Thanks everyone.

Great answer but applies to a different question. Perhaps to the original
posting that you deleted?
